From humble beginnings…
In 1954, Patrick Doherty (Patsy) and Robert Gray (Bobby) formed Doherty and Gray Ltd; building on Patsy’s experience as a cattle dealer and Bobby’s as a WW2 Rationing Officer. Having been founded in 1954, we now are the oldest existing red meat company in Northern Ireland.
The beginning of Hull’s…
In 1987, Doherty and Gray Ltd. acquired Richard Hull’s. Richard Hull’s was based in Battenberg Street, Belfast, and was owned by Max Jennings.
Max named his company in honour of his grandfather – Richard Stanley Hull. From there he worked to produce sausages and burgers including providing for patients at the Belfast City Hospital.
In 1987 we had a busy year! We moved to our current site on the Woodside Road in Ballymena. Since then we have constructed our purpose-built facilities including our state of the art offices built in 2010.
Moving to our new home…
From our small product range in the 1980s, we are now a major producer of sausages, burgers, veg rolls and meatballs. We now have ranges stocked in all major food retailers including our recent Platinum range.
