Hull’s Veg Roll Sausage Roll

Want a local twist on a well-known classic? Use a Veg Roll to crank up the flavour of your sausage rolls.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of Hull’s Veg Roll Slices
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 250g strong flour
  • 230g cold butter (unsalted)
  • 140 ml cold water
  • (OR PRE-PREPARED DOUGH)
  • 1 egg

Instructions

For puff pastry (if not using pre-prepared dough):

  • Pour flour into bowl, add a small pinch of salt and combine with water, mixing slowly until smooth.
  • Cover dough and allow to chill for 30 minutes.
  • Once chilled, roll out dough and place butter in the middle of the dough.
  • Fold dough over and re-roll over the dough. Repeat this step 3 times.
  • Roll out until flat and chill for 30 minutes before use.

For sausage roll:

  • Remove dough from chill and cut into a large rectangle.
  • Whip 1 egg to use as a glaze.
  • Use Hull’s Veg Roll Slices as a long cylinder and place in the middle of pastry dough.
  • Roll over pastry and glaze bond and the roll with whipped egg glaze.
  • Place in pre-heated oven for 25 minutes at 180 degrees.
  • Remove from heat and ensure that it is cooked through fully and pastry in golden-brown in colour.
  • Slice cylinder into individual sausage rolls.

Serve

  • Plate up sausage rolls and serve with salad, or a sauce of your choice.
